Sun City residents will join thousands of active adults across the nation participating in healthy activities in celebration of National Senior Health & Fitness Day on May 26 at the pavilion and Pinckney Hall.
This free event, organized around the theme of “Life is Better in Motion,” will feature a series of mini group exercise classes and health lectures throughout the day.

The event is part of the National Senior Health & Fitness Day organization, organized by the Mature Market Resource Center. According to the organization’s website, fitnessday.com, the goal of the event is to help keep older Americans healthy, fit and safe, and to showcase what local groups are doing in their communities to promote senior health and wellness.
Health and wellness manager Kristen Hatcher said residents can look forward to a fun-filled and educational day.
“This free event is a chance for residents to celebrate health, wellness and movement with each other and people across the nation. We have a bunch of great speakers lined up with topics that focus on all aspects of wellness, but also specifically relate to the overall theme,” she said.
Group exercise classes will be held at the pavilion from 9-11 a.m., introducing residents to some of Sun City’s fitness class options such as dance fit, Zumba, slide dance, chair yoga, boot camp and more.
Health lectures will be held at Pinckney Hall from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Residents will learn about topics such as morning meditation and mindfulness, balance and proprioception, how to work through joint pain, and strength training, among others.
Healthy food will be available for purchase from food vendors on the pavilion grounds.
For more information about the lineup of events, see eNews Weekly or the City Fit eNewsletter, or visit any of Sun City’s fitness centers. This event is open to Sun City residents only.
