Surviving with style: CarolinaEast Cancer Center to host fashion show, celebrating cancer survivors and caregivers | News

SECU Comprehensive Cancer Center at CarolinaEast Medical Center is hosting Surviving with Style, a fashion show celebrating cancer survivors and caregivers.

The event will take place on Feb. 2 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Cancer Center, located at 1300 Health Drive.

Surviving with Style will feature special models — patients at various stages of cancer care and caregivers, all wearing clothes donated by the Coastal Women’s Shelter Helping Hands Boutique and generous community members. Local professionals will be fitting and styling each model while also offering tips on caring for their skin and hair as it regrows after treatment.

“Clinical studies show that the most common psychological symptoms in the adaptation to cancer are reduction in self-esteem and distorted body image,” says Rev. Mary Martin, Clinical Chaplain at CarolinaEast Health System. “Surviving with Style is an opportunity to help our patients and their caregivers reclaim some of the self-confidence stolen from them by disease.”

Community members that have been affected by a cancer diagnosis, including patients, family members, or friends, are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be provided and registration is required. To attend Surviving with Style, complete the registration form or call 252-634-6930.

Surviving with Style is part of the Cancer Center’s Holistic Health and Wellness program. Each month, the program introduces various therapeutic modalities that complement the care cancer patients receive. The Holistic Health and Wellness program, led by CarolinaEast employees in partnership with local practitioners, strives to help patients and caregivers live fuller lives and increase their quality of life.

Previous events organized through the program include oncology skin care, reflexology, massage therapy, meditation, and nutrition. Follow the SECU Comprehensive Cancer Center on Facebook or visit www.carolinaeasthealth.com/calendar to learn about future events.
